Please have a look at my website, www.onionstring.com , and give me your comments and advice. The idea is that people use the site to find sources of expert advice and help in engineering. I am new to the whole business of website design and SEO and I have a lot to learn.

Many Thanks,

Ads.

Hi Ads - nice site - add your meta keywords - this thing about Google not needing them is often up for debate - besides the others like them.  Linking my friend - it's all about linking - you have some good out going but the SEO guys here will say that having outbound may bleed what internal pagerank you have.  Simple stuff really - each page is a landing page so each page needs linking to from sites relating to the anchor text.  I'd start with two good Directories www.joeant.com and www.mygreencorner.com then move on to www.pheedster.com/directories.php.  It takes ages to get really well linked but we have the right guys and gals in TIP to get you on your way.

Works now! You must have unblocked the pipe dave!

Design - OK. Not really much of an engineering style to it though? When you say engineering i think machinery, metal, schematics and industrial type things. Which arent really a feature of this blog design. Im not the greatest designer in the world but thats what my first thoughts were.

SEO - The main seriously overlooked factor is the title tags. For the home page, pick your main keyword and write a title that is informative, attractive in the SERPs but also contains your target keyword towards the start. Then pick a different targeted keyword for every other page and do the same thing.

Why have you built it within wordpress software? I would have probably built a stand alone site and added the blog afterwards. That way you avoid the confusion which i had as to whether the site is a blog or an engineering resource. Just m2c tho. Lots of people are building sites in this way now. But if you dont want to keep the blog elements then get rid of the comments footer bit on every page.

Make sure you get plenty of linking going on between pages. Dont rely purely on navigation links.

Get rid of the links going to wordpress and the blog template providers (unless you know them and feel obliged). These arent decent enough links to leave in place.

Think there is a bit too much text on the homepage for me - you could maybe direct your surfers to where you most want them with some strategically placed call-to-action links?

Generally, the site could maybe do with a few more photos to brighten it up a wee bit?

That site is one of the many free WordPress templates. Unless he knows some PHP there's not much he can do with it.

Sugestion SEO from me Cheesy
1. Create Title with your target keywords
2. Create meta keywords and meta descriptions
3. Create site map and submit to google master
