I made a DIY tutorial / checklist for optimizing the basic page elements and site mechanics for novice to intermediate users  (sites under 500 pages or so).  This is intended to guide the user and help develop basic knowledge and optimization skill.

Don't take me badly, but that page contains old and well-known techniques. In addition,

is not correct because you may have files named with uppercase as well.

lower case is become the defacto standard as it was a requirement in early linux servers, in a similar way that we now use htm because of the limitation of windows in previous versions.

regardless sticking to a naming strategy is a good idea including case, and since using lowercase does no harm and makes life easier most programmers and SEO who come from a technical background would support its use.

also you should be aware that some very old browsers can't handle upercase URLs while most browsers ignore it.

quick browse through loojks good covering the basics nicely the info is accurate and your "old techniques" are the ones I and many others use, regarding flash, you may find http://ventureskills.wordpress.com/2007/07/06/cloaking-is-ok-says-google/
worth a read the SWFObject library is a fantastic standards compliant way to host flash. The link on that post is to how Google recommends flash on web pages

You may notice that even phpMyAdmin installation is done into "phpMyAdmin" folder and man can't open it when typing "phpmyadmin" or so.

So I wouldn't focus on old web browsers at all.

You are talking about uppercase as a useless technique to differentiate files, but the thing happened that uppercase is now supported (wasn't at old ages as you wrote), so there must be a reason of this improvement in filesystems. Don't you think so?Smiley

Yes there is a reason.....companys like eBay

they are examples of comercial and creative displays of URLS and filenames for marketing and brand signature

same with phpMyAdmin, ColdFusion and phpBB and others

its cosmetic  ...  marketing appeal

This has nothing to do with your browser at all....It is and has always been a Linux SERVER thing.  It is not and "improvement in filesystems"...it is just part of Linux. If I remember correctly, it was part of an updtae containg UTF and some other programming options...I don't think it was intended...just a budled feature.  If I name a file in caps in my NT server I can address it either way and it will display.

And just so you know .. the whole world is NOT a Linux server and if you had a windows server your phpMyAdmin (just for example) would open in all lower case, as Window's does not care.
