Yahoo May Consider Letting Google Handle Paid Search
August 10, 2007 — 11:20 AM PDT — by Kristen Nicole — Share This

Ed note: edited this one to correct a few points.

Yahoo, going through a rough patch, is leaving all possibilities on the table. Including, it seems, a deal with its arch-enemy. Reports are that Yahoo isn’t ruling out the possibility of offloading its paid search business to Google.

Executives from the two companies meet regularly, says Kara Swisher at the Wall Street Journal’s AllThingsD blog, despite the widely held belief that their rivalry would stand in the way, even if it was the rational thing to do. As TechDirt points out, however, it wasn’t too long ago that Google powered Yahoo’s search: too late, Yahoo realized the true value of search engines and paid search.

When you hear that such a deal is a possibility, probably best to assume it’s not happening anytime soon. Or perhaps ever. But the fact that Yahoo would even consider trashing the work it has put into the search monetization business is a surprise.

From my experience with Yahoo PPC they need to sort it out. I did a PPC on yahoo about 4 months ago and it took 6 weeks to spend £25! Didn't they want my money???

At the time you could only have one keyword per add and it was very labourious setting the campaign up unlike Adwords.

The most emails I get in one week come from Yahoo trying to incenticise me back to them. They seem a bit desperate for businees.... I may be wrong.

Their search engine is in Europe almost nothing except a bit in the UK.
But their advertising is the second after Google. Lots of other regional search engines use the yahoo advertising to make an income.
In the Netherlands for example you have a few and they get much more traffic all together then the NL Yahoo engine.

I spoke to a Yahoo representer a year ago. The only thing they work on is advertising. They are not intrested in improving their SE overhere.

Their SE is a waste of time and money for them.
They make money with ads and they can use that system like they do now without having a search engine.
With their social media network they have also great places for their advertising.

If you then sell your advertising you better can stop being in business.

But at the end of the story probably nothing changes.
