I have done a cheeky thing. I have openly invited ASK to post here about their algorythm systems.

I am an open enthusiast of ASK - I think what they are trying to achieve in the UK is to become a leading brand. Personally I would have kept Jeeves on board but there are more pluses going for ASK especially as they are media friendly.

Yet what lets them down is their time to crawl and index sites.

I have spoken with them and obtained a contact name and was able to e-mail in albeit through 'normal channels' it will be interesting to see if they respond.

I admire Ask for trying, MSN has much more potential to compete with Google in my opinion but they just don't seem bothered, their marketing (for their search engine) is almost non existant.

Would be amazed if Ask replied but you never know. It might do them a favour to get more webmasters on board....

As many ads they have going on US channels it will be very interesting to see what they have to say both in the UK and US. Will they take the leap or just watch?

Well as I know that ASK have been looking at my sites - it means they will be dropping in here for a look.

I'm top on Google and all the others on Social Homebuy
But look at ASK's results - 3 years out of date !!! Now I'm sorry ASK - but John Prescott has retired from politics and the ODPM has been closed for 2 years.

But at least they show my CTAB Page

I used to worry about ask.  Now my sites are indexed, many ranking well....and they bring squat for traffic.  Here is a great example, customer's site..

Good competitive phrase "satellite equipment"
3,310,000 results in Google

Sites pageviews from phrase...Averaging 2609 views daily or 23.12% total average daily pageviews 11285

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=satellite+equipment&btnG=Google+Search
Site position #1
Google % of phrase views 9.1 % of total views

http://www.ask.com/web?q=satellite+equipment&search=search&qsrc=0&o=0&l=dir
Site position #1
Ask % of phrase views 1.2 % of total views

Seems hardly worth the effort or concern.  I have bigger fish to fry, that do provide traffic and conversions.  Like the fact that the phrase is stuck on Yahoo at the 11 position.

Ask is just a low performer, and they do do a poor job of crawling and caching pages.  We move and redesigned the site above 10/25, and Ask's cache date is 10/15...Give me a break!

I spoke with an Anne at Ask in London today - she asked if I had heard back - I said 'No' - so she was kind enough to give me her e-mail address and promised to send this thread to ASK in the good ol' US of A.

So ASK - please accept this forums invitation and post here - we have some of the most talented SEO guys on the planet here. We would love to know what Ask intends to do in order to start showing more up to date information on natural search. Smiley
