Simple enough question, ill be starting a blog in April and want to know the best way to generate some revenue from it.

I am looking to use google adsense, so should i just have a google ad in the side panel of the blog (ill be using wordpress), or should i look at actually including adsense in the actual blog post content, ie using a 200x200 banner around the text as mentioned in the last adsense related post... are there any positions or ad types that anyone has found particularly effective?

Your thoughts please...

I like a three column layout.

I've just changed an existing site of my brothers over to this layout..... www.drinkingagelaws.com

Previously the click through ration was pretty low (i suspect because the ads are not particulary targeted),

The previous layout had 2 x 768 x 90 ads top and bottom.

It'll be interesting to see if this improves things!

Webmasters, computers and the internet Cheesy

Presumably i can include adsense code in each specific blog post so as not to appear on the index page where the first x number of blogs (or introduction text to blogs) appear...?

Im a bit new to this wordpress thing, although i suppose thats not a very good thing to say considering im starting a wordpress blog :p

I've got my first finished interview back though and its looking good Cheesy

WordPress has mods you can add to it for just about anything your looking for. Ideally you want to find the ones that you don't need to do surgery on just to make them work. It seems that the people that are making them are starting to get back to basics so that users that have not used WP can install them.

They do have an adsense mod that you can install.

If you want to place an ad in a certain place on your pages they have a mod for this.

Have you decide what type of look your looking for on your blog? 1-2-3-4 columns?

Its 2 columns - main left coloumn containing content (100% width), right column with navigation (fixed width).

Currently having a play with http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/plugin/adsense-manager/ although havent managed to get the ads to appear quite yet...

Will have a bit of a play around with it!!!

You need to add this plug-in called widgets for that other plug-in to work.

I guess I should of read a little more

On Wordpress Widgets enabled blogs you can also drag the Ads around your Sidebar to position them as you like.

Yer you can however you can also add the following code:

<--adsense#name--> (where name is the name of your ad unit set up in the CMS) into any of your blog posts so as to and an adsense unit.

This is great however im just trying to now find out how to give one of these elements some CSS properties so that i can float is and wrap text around it - in the case of a 200x200 image block... if i can get around this issue it'll be great!

Slightly more complex as its all done through Wordpress... have spoken to the creator of the adsense plugin though and he has told me how to do it... really rather easy really Cheesy Thats the adsense sorted for the blog launch, at least i know i can potentially make some money now once i launch!
