Is there any benefit in starting to link build to a parked domain yet, or leave it until the site's got it's real content? Would it be bad linking to parked a parked domain? It's probably going to be parked until just before xmas, to give me time to get it right.

I don't see any harm in it as long as you have some stuff on the page now and not this is a parked domain.

Sounds to me like you should start a mini-site.......

Cheers Yourweb and Ash, I've got it parked on namedrive Ash  so it's got content sort of - well a wad of their affiliates.
I was only leaving a while until i get my head around templates. I'm ok with the wordpress stuff, but have an opensource template I like, but I've got to see how quick I can pick up droopal or joomla. Never used anything like that before. Then it will become a mini site with a bit of trade doubler on it. Just really got it to affiliate it on the run in to xmas periods, and euro 2008.
Reason I asked about the link building was to get them in place and I'm going to optimise as best I can for only one key phrase, and ignore all the others. The one phrase will be enough if it'll rank on the first page, and should pull in a few quid.

I think your better with a mini-site that you can expand at a late date.
If your trying to get links to a parking page you may struggle finding sites that would link to a poor quality page (such as a parking page.)
You also run the risk of the domain being banned by Google, some parking pages tend to get banned / blocked.

Ok then, I thought it may be a prob to the search engines.
For the sake of the cost of a .co.uk I might as get it up soon and experiment and learn how to make the mini site.
Ash it's an opensource template, very basic. What would be the easiest management system to start with? As my next step from word press.

If you are using a template that is'nt coded for a particular CMS, it may be tricky to integrate it to work with the template system of any CMS.
What are your coding skills like?
If you want to use Wordpress or any particular CMS i'd look for a template that was written for the CMS. I've hacked a few templates to suit before but its much easier and simple out of the box so to speak.

Understood. I'll have a hunt around. What CMS do you use for the simple sites like monetising?
I looked at drupal, but it's only got a few preset temps in the sytem with host gator. So I should be able to find other drupal templates around that i can upload? I hadn't really looked.
My coding skills are just above nil! Well I've managed to alter a different wordpress one, colours in style sheet, alter borders, add affiliate codes where I want etc.... Using wordpad, cut, copy, edit paste. Saving it, so if I mess it up I can just take it out and put the original back in.

I have my own custom SEO template that i use for my minisites like: www.mildew.org.ukwww.chancel.org.ukBecause they are single pagers i don't use a CMS, just manual coding / HTML editing. I keep meaning to tidy the template up and make it available for download from my blog. Its not pretty but near perfect for SEO.
