Link popularity is an important factor to rank you site higher in Search Result. You can easily count how many site has linked your site. To calculate how many site has linked your site in Google search by simply typing site:http://www.yoursite.com and will show the search result and number of site that has placed your link. You can do the same thing in yahoo or MSN search engines.

This is not correct with Google. Google shows only part of the links (though *sees* all of them, if they are indexed). Google does it because hates people to know too much about their part of the job.

Compare the linking results in Google and MSN and you will see the difference.

Still, you touch a very useful topic. It is important to know what exactly search engines see about your site. Do in on regular basis with Google, Yahoo and MSN and you will see what is working and what is not.

P.S. Not site: but link: (if we are talking about links from other sites to this site). Still, I repeat that link: will not show ALL links to the site, MSN is much better in this - they are more open to public.
