Well it is still in beta, so some things in Goolgle Chrome may be  modified/improved. I sure hope they sort the accessibility as it is nowhere near as good as Firefox in that aspect: http://www.paciellogroup.com/blog/?p=92

As told above, I have FF 2.X.  What has happened to version 3.X if you mean that that is better on accessibility than Opera?

Nope I was meaning that Firefox has better accessibility features than Google Chrome. Accessibility features in Chrome are almost non-existent.

Accessibility features in Chrome are almost non-existent.

As they are in FF 2.X so something may definitely have happened in version 3.X.
  • Have you ever tried Opera?
  • Have you tried the accessibility feature I described above?

The only thing I know is improved in the my version of FF compared to older versions is how XML documents are shown in the browser.

So there may be some new features in Version 3.X, but since I desperately need FireBug with FireFox and because of what was written on WPW that FF 3.0 was not compatible with FireBug, I can not install the latest version.  You may know more than me.

Did you note this http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2008/09/02/google-shines-up-chrome-web-browser article?

"It’s pretty strong on the security front. Chrome sandboxes Webpages, preventing drive-by downloads and installations. It continuously makes contact with Google to update a list of known malware sites in order to warn the user".

Hm.  See my above post regarding SERP spam.  I am not convinced.  What about other members?

and

"Putting the hype in hyperbole, Michael Arrington is singing the Windows dirge song. That nifty new imported from Denmark JavaScript engine, he contends will make Ajax applications like Gmail and Google Docs “absolutely roar.” Combined with Google Gears, “Chrome is nothing less than a full on desktop operating system that will compete head on with Windows.” The crystal ball shows Arrington millions of Web and desktop devices to strip out the Windows layer altogether, making the browser itself the operating system".

Isnt this a good thing though? They're heading in the direction of creating an OS to compete with MS and their over-priced software. To be honest the ONLY bit of software that microsoft have produced that I actually like is Outlook.

Ms's operating systems are poorly designed and do not continuously run at the same speed. You have to wipe and start again to get it back up to speed because it clogs itself up.

I'm using google docs right now, better for use with multiple people in different locations and you can export in formats to open in other software.

As an economist, I don't like monopolistic competition.

My experience with Windows XP is good.  I am too old to use and learn Linux.  I urged my son to try Opera, FF and Linux.  He did not like FF and is an Opera specialist.  He did not like Linux either and won a Vista ulitimate worth more than NOK 6000 that he likes very much.  I bought an Imac to my youngest daughter.  He was impressed by the Mac OS.  8 years old he compiled programs in the Simula for the OS II Warp compiler.  So he has an idea of what he is talking about. I agree that Office is good, and have never tried Open Office.  Windows mediaplayer, messenger is fairly good too.  IE is in my opinion a tragedy for the world and I don't like Live searh either.  There are some good meta search engines like Clusty.  I still regard Google as the best and most powerful of the "real" SE's.  I am very dissatisfied with Google Adsense so long.  May be I have not done enough or there is a better ad model for webmasters.

I'm using google docs right now, better for use with multiple people in different locations and you can export in formats to open in other software.

I have never tried that.

Good software may be expensive.  A free http://www.computer-books.us/php_2.php book where a Norwegian has contributed.  PHP and MySQL may be good enough for some webpages / webapplications.  Some webmaster will never need something else.  Good enough is simply best for them.

Like Android, Google Chrome is based on, built from the ground up with, open source application framework WebKit; it is intended to be next-generation built for handling Web applications rather than Web pages. It includes Google Gears built-in.

You are young.  If Chrome develops into a net OS, you should take a look at http://www.codegear.com/products/cppbuilder  If it is better than my old version and this

is correct yous should try to get a free trial.  Then buy it if you think it is worth the money.

If you are new to object oriented programming, this http://www.sitepoint.com/books/ajax1/ book is an exellent introduction where you learn to make simple web applications.

Set a goal.  In 2 / 3 years, I shall be a professional Borland C++ Builder engineer.

May be you already are.  Then some other readers may find value in this post.

Hey guys

David - sorry for starting the other thread, I hadn't noticed this one...

The discussion so far has been on whether (or NOT) you'll be using Chrome yourself, and how much data harvesting Google will most certainly be doing with it.  My interest was more what it means to my visitors...

No doubt a fair few people will be converted, and from my initial tests it's a bloody fast browser so it could grab quite a market share.  I used it all day yesterday as a test and so far only found one site that it breaks.

Has anyone else tried it, and is there anything to watch out for compatibility wise which is known to be an issue?

Cheers

Bill

Hey Bill, the only issues that i've been aware of so far is due to the new javascript v8 engine that it uses other than that it renders the pages the same as Safari/Firefox.

Oh and a pretty big issue - I cant log into my google account through Chrome. Dont know if thats because of our network, havent tried it at home.

Just to put in my $.02 here:  I installed this on one of my home PCs last evening and decided to see the different features.  I like the detached window feature, but what I noticed right away is how little it uses resource-wise.  I do like the crisp/clear toolbar up-top.  I also like when you first open it up it shows a history of URLs visited + the top 6 most visited sites with visual previews.  What I do not like is that it is still in beta form:  I feel that it will be months before it will compete with FF.  For the time being, I will continue to use FF for business, but it is nice to fiddle around with Chrome while I wait for it to catch up to it.  Bye Bye IE now, huh?  Cheesy

I'll stick to Opera Cool

I haven't had chance to read this thread in full but you may want to read this David. The address field of the browser has been tested.

Well thats the proof I wanted to see, it appears you were correct then David. Coupled with the other thread on wpw about them keeping  a database of collected information they do seem to be recording browser habits. Tut tut Google. I'll be uninstalling that from my home PC, long live Firefox (and opera)!
