wow... Answering your question would be a book in itself.  Wink

Unless you're selling very niche specialty products your walking into the teeth of some very stiff competition. Your very first marketing consideration needs to be the site itself. I'd suggest doing a lot of research into what makes for a really good ecommerce site. You can do all the marketing you want but if your visitors don't like what they see when then get there you've lost the battle.

If your site is ready, or once it is, you might consider putting it up on the Website Review board for us to take a peek at.

Hi Bob,
A very cheap and easy way to get started online is ...

EBAY!

You can set up an ebay store relatively easily and get up and running within an hour.

Kind regards,
Tony

Ebay and Google Base are good places to start.

Everything you want and need to know is available here or online. Just google your questions and learn them one step at a time.

But one thing i will say, this is going to cost time and money. To really function in that online industry youre going to have to really get to grips with how it all works. But the good thing is, once you know you have the world at your feet, you can start selling those skills and using them to make money in other online ventures.

The best place to start id say is the forums and the stickies on forums (these are the posts which are always at the top and generally have the most frequent and general questions covered in fine detail).

I agree that Ebay is a good way to start.  I made my very first online money selling collectibles on Ebay.  It's fun, pretty easy and you learn a lot too!
