Munky this is what David would like to see as a theme / logo / header

"What I've always wanted was a Bar type background with You are Drinking in The Inn Place Get it?"

Any chance you could knock up a generic TIP logo (similar size to the current PHPBB logo)?

Munky

http://davidcastle.org/BB/rss.php

That is a link to an RSS feed which currently shows the last 5 posts on the forum. I've tested it on one of my sites rss aggregator and it works fine. How do you include it in Firefox? Would you prefer only posts from certain sections to show up? More posts etc?

You could always add a box with chicklets to the major news aggregators such as

<? echo "
<table width=\"130\">
<tr><td width=\"80%\" valign=\"top\">
<a href=\"http://add.my.yahoo.com/rss?url=$URL_PATH/rss.php\" title=\"$_GET[id]\"><img src=\"http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/us/my/addtomyyahoo4.gif\" alt=\"Subscribe to MyYahoo\" style=\"border:0\"/></a>
<br><br>
<a href=\"http://www.newsgator.com/ngs/subscriber/subext.aspx?url=$URL_PATH/rss.php\" title=\"$_GET[id]\"><img src=\"http://www.newsgator.com/images/ngsub1.gif\" alt=\"Subscribe in NewsGator Online\" style=\"border:0\"/></a>
<br><br>
<a href=\"http://fusion.google.com/add?feedurl=$URL_PATH/rss.php\"><img src=\"http://buttons.googlesyndication.com/fusion/add.gif\" width=\"104\" height=\"17\" style=\"border:0\" alt=\"Add to Google\"/></a>
<br><br>
<a href=\"http://my.feedlounge.com/external/subscribe?url=$URL_PATH/rss.php\"><img src=\"http://static.feedlounge.com/buttons/subscribe_0.gif\" alt=\"Subscribe in FeedLounge\" title=\"$_GET[id]\" border=\"0\" /></a>
<br><br>
<a href=\"http://www.bloglines.com/sub/$URL_PATH/rss.php\" title=\"$_GET[id]\" type=\"application/rss+xml\"><img src=\"http://www.bloglines.com/images/sub_modern1.gif\" alt=\"Subscribe in Bloglines\" style=\"border:0\"/></a>
<br><br>
<a href=\"http://www.bitty.com/manual/?contenttype=rssfeed&contentvalue=$URL_PATH/rss.php\"><img src=\"http://www.bitty.com/img/bittychicklet_91x17.gif\" style=\"border:0\" alt=\"Add to Bitty Browser\"/></a>
<br><br>
<a href=\"http://www.netvibes.com/subscribe.php?url=$URL_PATH/rss.php\"><img src=\"http://www.netvibes.com/img/add2netvibes.gif\" width=\"91\" height=\"17\" alt=\"Add to netvibes\" style=\"border:0\" /></a>
<br><br>
<a href=\"$URL_PATH/rss.php\" title=\"$_GET[id]\" rel=\"alternate\" type=\"application/rss+xml\"><img src=\"http://www.feedburner.com/fb/images/pub/feed-icon16x16.png\" alt=\"Get the latest news\" style=\"border:0\"/></a>
</td></tr>
</table>" ?>

Maybe of use?

Maybe some social bookmarking links to del.icio.us myyahoo etc. Great way to get a few extra internal links.

Thanks Onelife, are those the little boxes that you find on some sites? Like on this site? www.smfseo.org

I was planning on adding these, thanks for the code!

Okay.

Progress update.

Search Engine Friendly URLS are active, so we should get alot more pages indexed!  Smiley - Note the friendly URLS are only shown to visitors (guests and bots) - You can view them if you log out. You can link to either the friendly urls or the normal urls and the links will still work.

RSS Feeds - are now active. You can view the forums RSS feed via this link www.davidcastle.org/BB/rss.php - This currently shows the 5 latest posts, would you like to change this to 10, 15, 20 etc?

New Theme - I've installed a new theme which i liked the look of, but left the default theme for now as the crappy standard template. If anyone would like to suggest a templates, i'll add them to the site. Once we've got a few up we can decide on a default template. To view the new template click on your profile and you can select the skins, the new template is Alexis (the other options are old templates)

All comments appreciated!

 I remember offering to do a logo - what were the sizes again and I'll see if I can give Munky any competition!

My initial thoughts were a kind of drinking/bar theme too Smiley

Okay link should now be working your web (or you can click the rss buttons at the bottom of the page  Smiley )

That would be great Steve, as for logo size something similar to the existing standard PHPBB logo (on the subsilver theme) would be great.

Will eventually get round to doing a custom skin / theme.

Has anyone tried the new template?

Sorry ash, didnt know this discussion had gone any further! In Firefox an orange rss icon should appear on the bottom right (i think) of the browser window. If you click on that you can bookmark the feed to make a drop down menu of the feeds. Either that or bookmark the link directly. Doesnt work all the time though. If you install the Wizz RSS News Reader it may help.

That other reader wont pick it up either. It says:

"It will only find feeds and OPML that are identified with the correct mime types. i.e. application/rss+xml, application/atom+xml and/or text/x-opml."

Try doing that and then it'll probably work in Firefox.

Thanks Munky, I'll look into getting that working.

David, for the time being i've left the standard template in place, although we could set it to the new one but i thought it might scare some of the members!

If you want to take a look at the new one, click on your profile and you'll have some skin / template options select the one that says ALEXIS or something like that. When you are logged into the forum you will always view the forum using this template.

If you approve we can set this one to default and then add a few more skins to choose from.

Let me know what you think?

I really like the new one and have changed it to my default. Only thing i dont like is the icons in our posts for the web/email/msn etc links. They look a bit naff. Is there anyway of taking the ones out of another theme to repace them?
