I think you need to check the permissions on where those files are stored.

Hmm, some of the file settings had been changed.
Weird i did'nt change these, will speak to our host to see what they say, apparently resetting the server 'can' cause these issues.......
Let me know if you spot anymore bugs.

I suspect it was a server reset that caused this.
There are no known cases of PHPBB security lapses causing this and i very much doubt Hostgators server was compromised, but to be on the safe side i'll make some enquiries.
Will upgrade to the latest PHPBB release too.
