I been busy working on Burf.com (search engine for people who did not know) and now I allow you to remove sites from the listings

So you could search for seo and see some site that is nothing to do with seo and just hit "ban site"

Should be fun for all the family. They do get removed straight away but I vet them to (so I can add backin)

Why not give it ago!

I see. Test it out and see if it works. Good way of seeing who is honest and so forth.

I have one for you. My site is a shopping mall. So what site would be a shopping mall? Does a shopping mall site sells? OR is it a site that if you know what the meaning of a mall is, where a mall is a brick and morter building housing shops of all different kind.

I get my site under shopping which could be just about everything on the web. Hence what I see as a problem being put in that area. I would like to see a place called shopping malles and not shopping stores.

I forgot what I was asking here. I am going to have to think on what I was asking and get back in here to see if I can finish what I was asking.

Anyways I did a search and got that my rank is 499. That good or bad?

The rank is based on what you search for.

First of all it queries the engine and gives back 1000 results (yes its not a typo)

these are numbered in a order which the query engine thinks is best but is usually naff

The placement is given to the site as a rank But then does some checks on the description, url and title to see if them keywords are found and adds more points to the site

So for instance the second site out from the index would get 999 points and if it contained 1 keywords in each of the place (desc, title, url) it would get 100 points per place (example)

Making 1299 as a rank.

I will write a better document about it on Burf

nice idea burf, I like your way of thinking.

maybe it would be better to hit 'suggest ban site' instead of 'ban site', that way, you (or the mod/admin) gets to decide whether or not a site be banned, rather than deciding whether to un-ban it.

also, if you made people provide an e-mail address when the 'suggest a ban', it would be easier for you to tell if poeple are being shady and just removing their competition. I they continue to abuse the feature you could ban them from using the 'suggest ban' feature.

That word 'ban' scares me. Sooner or later I think that is what you UK guys will be doing to me.

You have a good idea hawkwind dave. Better to be safe than lose a good site.

You'd probably get a better, bigger crowd if you hired on a staff do to that for you. It would ensure quality and you would pay for performance. Just a suggestion. But this works too!  Grin
